Radar of the Week (Oct 6–9): GPT-6 for Everyone, Copilot in Windows
This edition of the Radar of the Week covers October 6 to 9, 2026 — four days that packed in more major launches than many whole months. OpenAI handed GPT-6 to everyone, Microsoft held its first big Windows event in two years, Anthropic cut its API price by 90% and Rockstar opened up the GTA 6 radio stations.
Quick answer: the five signals of the week
1) GPT-6 reached every ChatGPT user with Intelligent UI, answering in charts and buttons. 2) Microsoft put Copilot in the Windows core and announced the Surface Laptop Ultra at $2,599. 3) Claude Haiku 5.5 cut per-token pricing by 90%. 4) Google Ads will pull offers from your site starting October 12. 5) Rockstar revealed six GTA 6 radio stations, with Bad Bunny and Lana Del Rey.
Artificial intelligence
- OpenAI (Oct 7–8): GPT-6 rolled out in ChatGPT with Intelligent UI — answers that assemble charts, buttons, forms and calculators. Paid plans use GPT-6 Sol; Free and Go got Luna on October 8. GPT-6 Instant answers search questions 44% sooner than 5.6.
- Anthropic (Oct 7): Claude Haiku 5.5 at $0.10/$0.50 per million tokens — a 90% cut. But the new tokenizer and reasoning volume push average cost per task to $0.21, against $0.07 for GPT-6 Luna.
- Anthropic (Oct 8): a usage policy update that bars abusive or cruel behavior toward the models, plus a security initiative aimed at critical infrastructure.
- Former OpenAI employees: three fired staff publicly warned the company could lose the ability to monitor advanced models’ reasoning, calling for outside audits.
Hardware and big tech
| Announcement | When | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Surface Laptop Ultra (Nvidia RTX Spark) | Preorder Oct 7, ships Oct 16 | From $2,599.99 |
| Copilot in the Windows core + Agent 365 + Microsoft IQ | October 7 event | — |
| OnePlus 16 (9,000mAh battery) | October 12, China | ~5,000 yuan (estimated) |
| iPhone Duo | Preorder Oct 16 | $1,999 |
The Surface Laptop Ultra brings an 18- or 20-core Arm CPU, a Blackwell GPU and up to 128GB of unified memory, with a 15-inch mini-LED display at 2,000 nits. At the event, Satya Nadella and Jensen Huang shared the stage — and Microsoft confirmed there is no Windows 12. TSMC, separately, is weighing a second US campus in Dallas.
Search and marketing
- Google Ads: from October 12, the platform extracts offers from your site and shows them in Search and Performance Max ads — on by default.
- September spam update: the third phase ran October 4–6 and the rollout is near its end.
- Fake authors: Google spelled out that invented names, AI-generated headshots and false credentials signal a low-quality page.
- Language targeting was removed from Search campaigns, and Search Console now accepts multiple countries in its filter.
Startups and games
- Healthleap (Oct 7): $38 million across seed and Series A, with Sequoia, First Round and Hummingbird, for an AI that reads patient records and flags risk. Preference Model emerged from stealth with $16 million from a16z.
- Silver Pines and Hellraiser: Revival (Oct 8): two horror games on the same day with opposite fates — 88 on OpenCritic against 69 on Metacritic.
- GTA 6 (Oct 8): six radio stations revealed, with Bad Bunny and Lana Del Rey among the hosts, plus podcasts and, for the first time in the series, music on foot through the character’s phone. 41 days to launch.
Why this matters
The week’s through-line is AI leaving the cloud. Microsoft puts the model inside the operating system, Nvidia sells the chip that runs it on your lap, and Anthropic drives the token price down so the API fits any product. Two practical actions for the coming days: audit the offers on your site before October 12, and, if you pay for an AI API, redo the math on cost per task — the price sheet has stopped being comparable.
