Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3: The AI Glasses That Want to Replace Your Phone
Meta spent Connect 2026, on September 23 and 24, talking about one thing: getting the screen out of your hand. The company announced the third-generation Ray-Ban Meta (from $449), a camera-free version called Ray-Ban Meta Audio ($349), an AI pendant named Muse Charm, $1,299.99 VR glasses for 2027 — and the promise of more than 100 styles of AI glasses by year-end, reaching new markets including Singapore, South Korea, Mexico, the UAE and Brazil. The question that remains: does this replace the phone?
Quick answer: what did Meta launch?
Ray-Ban Meta gen 3 (from $449, available now): 12MP camera, better battery than gen 2, a six-microphone array and an action button. Ray-Ban Meta Audio (from $349, shipping October 13): 43 grams, 12-hour battery, no camera, in Clubmaster and Burbank styles. Meta Adventurer with charging case ($249, shipping October 23). Meta Glasses LISA Edition from $399. And the VR glasses (Project Phoenix) at $1,299.99, only in spring 2027.

What already works without the phone
On camera models, Meta AI (now powered by the Muse model) answers questions about what you are looking at, translates signs and conversations, takes photos and records video by voice, and places calls. The gen 3’s action button gives quick access to the assistant. What still depends on the device: initial setup, media syncing, map navigation and any non-Meta app. In other words: the glasses replace the phone in micro-moments — a quick photo, a question, a message — not in general use.
Privacy: the weak spot
Zuckerberg addressed it on stage: the recording light stays, there are anti-tampering measures, and the company is working on “private processing” for the glasses. It is not trivial — the whole category lives under the suspicion of whoever is on the other side of the lens.
Snap, Apple and the race for your face
A week earlier, Snap launched Specs, standalone AR glasses at $2,195 with dual displays and AI from OpenAI and Google. Meta answered with price and variety: instead of one expensive product, dozens of models between $249 and $449, betting the category becomes a fashion accessory before it becomes a computer. Apple, for now, stays with Vision Pro — a headset, not glasses.
Pricing and availability
Meta listed Brazil among the Ray-Ban Meta’s new markets by year-end, alongside Singapore, South Korea, Mexico and the UAE. Local pricing has not been announced. Meanwhile, the previous generation and audio alternatives show up regularly in deals:
Why this matters to you
If you are considering AI glasses, gen 3 is the obvious pick among camera models, and the $349 Audio is the cheapest entry for anyone who only wants sound and an assistant. For the phone market, Meta’s move is the first real sign of competition: not through outright replacement, but through “moment theft” — every photo taken with the glasses is a time you did not reach for the phone. And in new markets, official availability solves the category’s biggest problem: warranty and support.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the third-generation Ray-Ban Meta cost?
From $449 in the U.S., available now. The camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio starts at $349 and ships on October 13, 2026.
Do Meta’s glasses work without a phone?
Partially. Voice commands, photos, video, translations and Meta AI questions run on the glasses, but setup, media syncing and third-party apps still require a smartphone.
Where will the glasses be available?
Meta said Ray-Ban Meta reaches more than 100 styles and new markets by the end of 2026, including Singapore, South Korea, Mexico, the UAE and Brazil.
